• - If you are looking to start an Aksharam mission affiliated school with Malayalam Mission the process needs to be started with registering your center(school) under Aksharam. Once approved, teachers can be registered under the same and the followed by students.
• - Identify the coordinator and teachers. Identify a minimum of 10 kids.
• - Name your center and register the center at http://mami.kerala.gov.in/ by clicking on Padanakedhram Registration
• - Fill in all details - Zonal office will be "USA Arizona" and the request will come to Aksharam for approval. For 'name of the teacher' and details, you can give one of the teachers' name and details. You still must register each of the teacher individually.
• - It takes about 2 weeks to get the center approved. Once done, submit teacher registration and each parent to register their kid at http://mami.kerala.gov.in/ . At the time of registration, you should use the same center name as the one you choose (For Example, if you register your center as 'Aksharam Tucson', you must select the same center while registering teachers and kids). Course has to be ‘Kanikkonna’
• - Teachers and students registrations can be done in parallel. You can also start the classes. We will guide you with the complete process for registration, how to start the classes, syllabus, coordination of textbooks and workbooks if any etc. We will also coordinate the teachers' training with Malayalam Mission.
• - The classes are free. All classes are driven by volunteers. There will be some expenses that every kid will incur. (Expense for shipping books from India, Workbook printing, any other logistic costs). Typically, this should not be more than $50 a year.
• - We recommend you have at least 2 teachers per class, and ideally not more than 15-20 kids per class.
• - With the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes are currently done using online meetings. Later on, you may start the in-person classes. Any logistics expenses are to be managed by the center (contributions from parents as needed)
• - Once you have the teachers identified, we will schedule a quick meeting to help with the logistics, next steps and all details needed.
• - Recommend 2 hours (at least 1.5 hours) of class every week. Attendance must be registered at least once a week and the center has to keep it as a record.
